The Kristoff Vengeance Robusto is a bold and flavorful cigar that lives up to its name. Vengeance is one of the Kristoff brand’s oldest lines. The original blend was re-branded from Vengeance to GC Signature Series back in 2011, then in 2018 Glen Case announced at TAA that the Vengeance line would be making a return, with a slightly different blend. The original blend (now GC Signature Series) featured a Brazilian maduro wrapper, Indonesian binder and had some Honduran tobacco in the filler.

Here’s a breakdown:

Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf

Binder: Indonesian

Filler: Nicaraguan, Dominican

Strength: Medium-Full

Flavor Profile: rich notes of dark roast espresso bean, sweet mocha, graham cracker, spice, and a long creamy cocoa finish

Review:

This cigar packs a punch. The initial flavors are intense, with a strong blast of pepper and coffee. The smoke is thick and the draw is generally good, though it can be a bit snug at times. As the cigar progresses, notes of sweet mocha, graham cracker, with pepper still in the background, finished with a long creamy cocoa finish. Burn line had to be touched up twice, ash stayed on and was a nice grey, white colour.

Important Note: The Vengeance can be quite strong, especially for those not accustomed to full-bodied cigars. The initial pepper spice can be quite intense to the point i sneezed a couple of times.

Overall:

The Kristoff Vengeance Robusto is a cigar for experienced smokers who enjoy bold flavors and a strong nicotine kick. It’s a powerful smoke that delivers a memorable experience, but it’s not for the faint of heart. I recommend trying a single before committing to a box, as the intensity of the spice may not be to everyone’s liking.

The Kristoff Sumatra was the featured release for Glen Case and his Kristoff brand at the 2009 IPCPR trade show in New Orleans.  At Kristoff, their focus is on quality, consistency, and availability. They use only the highest quality double and triple fermented premium tobaccos from around the world, which are artfully blended to satisfy the palate of the most discriminating cigar aficionado.

Their cigars are made using a centuries old bunching technique called “entubar”. This skillful bunching method creates a more firmly packed cigar which allows air to travel between all the leaves, carrying more aromatics and flavor to the palate. Every cigar is then individually draw tested to ensure a well-constructed cigar that delivers a perfect draw every time.

The Kristoff Sumatra is a well-regarded cigar that offers a complex and satisfying smoking experience. Here’s a breakdown of its key features:

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra

Binder: Brazilian

Filler: Cuban Seed Dominican, Cuban Seed Nicaraguan

Strength: Medium to Full

Flavor Profile: Earthy, spicy, with notes of cedar, leather, and pepper.

Kristoff Sumatra comes in 5 different sizes: Matador – 6.5 x 56, Robusto – 5.5 x 54, Torpedo – 6.25 x 52, Churchill – 7 x 50, and Lancero – 7.5 x 40.

Vitola: Robusto
Length: 5 1/2
Ring Gauge: 54

Review:

The Kristoff Sumatra Robusto delivers a robust and flavorful smoke from start to finish. The initial flavors are earthy and spicy, with a noticeable pepper kick on the retrohale. As the cigar progresses, notes of cedar and leather emerge, adding complexity to the profile. The construction is generally good, with a consistent burn and a well-balanced draw.

Overall:

The Kristoff Sumatra Robusto is a solid choice for experienced smokers who enjoy medium to full-bodied cigars with complex flavor profiles. It’s a satisfying smoke that offers a rewarding experience.

The Kristoff Connecticut was released and introduced by Glen Case’s Kristoff Cigars in 2016. As the name indicates, this is a cigar that features an Ecuadorian-grown Connecticut Shade wrapper. While this would not be the first Connecticut Shade cigar released by the company, it would be the first Kristoff-branded Connecticut Shade cigar released in the “Kristoff style” – namely the rough cut boxes, loose tobacco and pig-tail caps.

The Kristoff Connecticut also uses a Nicaraguan binder and a filler consisting of four varietals of Dominican Habano

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Shade Grown Connecticut
Binder: Nicaraguan Habano Seed
Filler: Quad Dominican Habano Seed
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic (Charles Fairmorn)

The Kristoff Connecticut is available in four sizes. The line is skewed toward larger ring gauges. All four sizes have a  50 or larger ring, and three of the four have a 54 plus ring.

Each of the four sizes are packaged in 20 count boxes.

Robusto: 5 1/2 x 54
Churchill: 7 x 50
Matador: 6 1/2 x 56
6 x 60: 6 x 60

The Kristoff Connecticut Robusto continued with the classic wood and cedar notes from the pre-light draw. The cedar notes delivered a nice combination of sweetness and spice. In the background there were some creamy notes. There also was a very subtle astringent note in the background. Eventually the cedar notes took control as the primary note. The classic wood and cream notes became secondary while the astringent note dissipated. On the retro-hale, I picked up notes of black pepper.

During the second third, the cedar notes remained in the forefront. From time to time, the creamy notes did surface in the forefront. I still detected some classic wood notes in the background. Meanwhile some of the cedar notes made their way into the retro-hale.

By the last third of the Kristoff Connecticut Robusto, the cedar notes still were in the forefront, but now had more of a spicy component. The cream and woody notes were still in the background. This is the way the cigar experience came to a close. The resulting nub was firm to the touch and cool in temperature.

Cons:

  • May Lack Complexity: Some may find the flavor profile a bit one-dimensional compared to bolder blends.
  • Not for Bold Palates: If you prefer strong, spicy cigars, this might not be the best choice for you.

Overall:

The Kristoff Connecticut is a well-made cigar that offers a pleasant and relaxing smoking experience. It’s a great option for beginners or those who prefer milder smokes. While it may not be as complex as some other blends, it delivers a consistent and enjoyable flavor profile. Not only does it fit the bill for “morning smoke with a cup of coffee”, but it’s a nice anytime of the day smoke. It’s a cigar I’d recommend to any cigar enthusiast. As for me, the Kristoff Connecticut Robusto is a cigar I’d reach for again and it’s worthy of having a fiver in the humidor.

Summary:

Burn: Excellent
Draw: Excellent
Complexity: Medium-
Strength: Mild to Medium
Body; Mild to Medium
Finish: Very Good

Note: Individual experiences may vary, and it’s always recommended to try a cigar before buying a box.

I hope this review helps!
